I'm currently working in Sunnyvale. We have a hybrid schedule here with in office 3 days and at home 2 days. However, the in office days aren't enforced and if I choose to WFH I still can. I don't know if that will change in the future.

I also have an infant at home and stay at home wife.

We currently live in an apartment in Saratoga area and am interested in moving up to a larger place. Ideally SFH. What areas would you recommend and would you rather buy or rent?

For home purchases, areas like Santa Teresa or Berryessa are somewhat more affordable and have good schools (although we don't need them immediately). Areas like Cambrian Park are a bit of a stretch. We don't like Milpitas for the smell and Fremont just seems a bit far.

Well, have you looked at the RE prices in the areas you mentioned, to see if you can afford to buy?

Buying is possible in Santa Teresa, Berryessa as a moderate stretch. In the more ideal places (shorter commute like Cupertino or Sunnyvale), only renting is possible and with a lower monthly payment than buying.

I’d recommend staying as close to Sunnyvale as possible. I realize that the rentals and real estate prices are high in the area. The commute to Sunnyvale and surrounding areas (at least pre-pandemic) were very congested coming from the East Bay. So, I would not recommend the East Bay as a permanent arrangement.

The traffic situation currently may have let up a bit as many are working from home offices, but there is a possibility that traffic may return “to normal levels” at some point.

I live in Berryessa. It's nice and quiet and family friendly. The east to west commute is tough. Between 880 and 101, you don't have a lot of options to cross over, so those get busy. (Montague, Berryessa, Alum Rock). Best way would be to head south on 680 to 280 and then cut north where you need it.

Mostly working families with decent jobs. The riff raff was priced out years ago.
