Anyone has heard any news what was going on on block of Sunny Court and McLaughlin Ave?

I was woke up in the morning by police warnings "get outside and hands up" then heard flash bombs. Then I walk out of my apartment I see my neighbors standing and watching and I look, the whole bomb squad is surrounding some house across my apartment complex.

I tried to look up on crime reports website but I don't see it reported (yet, maybe they will later).

I used to go to school near there on McLaughlin. This doesn't even remotely surprise me. It's always been a s***y part of town.

What are the worst parts to avoid? Pretty much everywhere I look at is run down, but as I go toward Santa Clara omg. things little get better when I get closer to infamous story&king as it is clean with new stores, they even have new Jack-In-The-Box there.

I notied that this part of town also has the most traffic to/from highways US 101/280 and 90% of busted lights on freeway exits.

I'd say as a very broad generalization that some of the worst neighborhoods in San Jose are in the area that's bordered by Maybury road on the north, White Rd. to the east, Yerba Buena Rd. to the south and 1st St./Monterey Rd. to the west.

Obviously there are other miscellaneous bad pockets in SJ, but overall the "East Side" area I defined is what I'd consider to be the crappiest part of town.

Even with that said, I still feel safer in the worst parts of SJ than in the worst areas of SF or Oakland. The media keeps making a big stink about SJ's recent increase in crime, but overall it really is still a safe city. I survived going to school from K-12 and church off McLaughlin for years between Story and Tully and have never been a victim of crime there. Stuff does happen, but it's usually to people who are involved in bad things. In my early 20's, I also used to hang out regularly there with friends who grew up on the East Side and never had anything happen. Obviously bad things can and do happen there but in reality people who exercise reasonable street smarts will most likely not become a victim of crime.
