I'll be in San Francisco for three days next month and I was wondering if there is such a thing as my perfect hotel . Let me explain. My perfect hotel would mean a cost efficient, clean (I'm used to staying in budget hotels) hotel that is right near the aiport (SFO in my case). Public transportation into the city can be walked to or gotten to easily from the hotel. I don't really like depending on taxis unless I'm actually in the city. We won't be driving, when we visit San Francisco we always use the buses and bart. It just seems like the hotels we always get are either a long, long, long walk to public transportation into the city, or somewhere we wouldn't want to be walking if we got back late at night. So I was wondering if there is such a hotel near SFO or maybe if anyone has hotel recommendations right downtown that is near a lot of attractions or a bart station (under 100 a night). Long winded one I know. Thanks for sticking with me.

Look into hotels in Burlingame on the Old Bayshore Hwy. You get a bay view and a walking trail, it costs less than San Francisco hotels, and there is a 24 hour bus service to both SFO and San Francisco downtown. They also have free shuttles to the Millbrae BART station if you want to get there faster.

I wouldn't recommend bothering with the to and fro of getting back to SFO hotel each night.

Within city limits just under 100$..(standard double room is currently 99 bucks) I'd recommend:
