Is the Petaluma Airport busy? Is the noise bothersome for the houses close to it? How close is too close to the airport? Thank you.

I flew out of Petaluma for four years and I don't think the airport has a major noise impact on the surrounding neighborhoods. It's situated on the edge of town and pilots follow noise abatement procedures that keep them from flying over populated areas at low altitude. Also, except on weekends, there isn't much air traffic.

A friend from work used to live in Petaluma (east side, near the airport). Of bigger concern to him was the racetrack near the highway. They have dirt-track races with those little midget cars that can get extremely loud, plus a PA announcer to call the race, which he said echoed all across the neighborhood.

Not sure how often they have the races, or if they even survived COVID, but that's way more of an issue than a tiny municipal airfield, in my opinion, as a pilot.
