Hi Friends,

I'm a conservative, Christian male and I'm thinking about moving to San Francisco. If I did so, how much "oppression" do you think I would face in such a liberal city? Do you think I could still enjoy life there?

Any thoughts or recommendations would be helpful.

San Francisco sounds pretty liberal, although California in general does.

If you get the chance you should also pick up "Every Young Man's Battle". I've heard it's a very good book. As a woman, though, I've never felt the need to read it.

I know a few people that would consider themselves conservative Christians. They are doing fine.

I hear people say that SF is a liberal town that has no tolerance, but I've never felt that.

I think it's mostly hyped.... I'm just that and love San Francisco.... but I was born here so perhaps I'm just immune to everything.

Neither have I... you might get an eye-roll here and there, but we're not going to burn crosses on your lawn or anything. I know quite a few conservatives & Christians (and people who are both), and they seem pretty content living here. Generally speaking, people in the Bay Area mind their own business - and don't care whether you're gay, straight, conservative, atheist, Christian, or otherwise. We can get a bit loud about political stuff, but usually just at parades & protests.

you'll be fine. Now if you were a liberal in a consertivite town that would be much different.

San Francisco isn't all hippies, not by far. People of all stripes live and thrive there. The only real issue you might have is claustrophobia if you're used to the big plot sizes you get in flyover country..
