Hello folks,

I'm thinking of relocating from San Diego to San Francisco and looking for work in Silicon Valley. I've got a decent engineering degree and industry experience so i'm not too worried about finding a job or cost of living. I'm only 26 years old and like city life, I'm single, and I don't really want to live in San Jose or Silicon Valley. What would my commute be like from San Francisco to Silicon Valley? I know there are lots of neighborhoods in SF and many different cities in the valley, but if you could give me an average commute time I would be much indebted! Is it bumper to bumper traffic the whole way? I'm hoping it's less than forty five minutes....??? Thanks.

101 is heavy traffic the whole way, and could take up to 2 hours. 280 is a lot less congested and a better road, but it still jams up starting in Cupertino going into San Jose. That would be a little over an hour.

Take CalTrain down the peninsula, most employers have shuttles and or public transit for the last link. Silicon Valley runs roughly from Oracle in Redwood Shores to Adobe in downtown SJ. 20 miles. work for Oracle you might make it, work for Adobe you might double it.
