Hey folks, need some help in planning a fun Friday night, Saturday night for trip with kids to the city. What would be some fun things to do with them? What part of the city would be safe and have a fun hotel to stay in? Would go in May or June. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Is Van ness down closer to the GG Bridge a good location?

You're looking for evening kiddie entertainment only? No daytime?

And do you want a typical tourist or do what the natives do type of experience?

Fisherman's Wharf is the most fun for kids. You have the seals, puer 39, arcade museum, souvenir stores, ocean, bike rentals, boat tours etc

The Exploratorium, definitely. Its new location is right on the F streetcar line - very convenient!

Take the kids on a ferry to Sausalito, which departs from the Ferry Bldg.

?? Riding the ferry at night? I don't think it has a night run. The exploratorium is perfect. Try Googling it to find out hours.
Here's the link for CA Academy of Sciences Morrison Planetarium, which has astronomy shows, but it only runs until 5 pm. What are you going to do at night with a 6-year-old, anyway?

Have one tired 6 year old after a full day, hehe.
The Wharf and Pier 39, Ghiradelli Square, Lombard Street, Exploratorium,
Coit Tower, Golden Gate Park and Bridge, and Chinatown are standards for the
touristy side of the ledger..
Ruth, what's the name of the fort under the bridge on the SF side of the Golden
Gate? I always forget it's name, hehe. Cool tour.

Fort Point. It's spectacular during an especially high tide. You can park your car on the edge of the point, and huge waves crash on the point and make a spectacular show, drenching the car. But you have to get a tide chart at the bookstore to figure out when to be there.

Sure, all the above are good daytime tourist activities, but we need the OP to clarify her request.

Golden Gate Park: the Japanese Tea Garden is good for kids, and the planetarium and aquarium are nearby, at the CA Academy of Sciences. Drive to the end of the park, and let the kiddies splash around on the beach.

Ghirardelli Square: the attraction here, aside from endless tourist shoppes, is the chocolate factory. You can see the chocolate being made, and there's a soda shoppe-type area where you can order ice cream sundaes and banana splits with lots of Ghirardelli chocolate sauce. Great for kids.

Funny that I couldn't remember the name of Fort Point, haha. Been a few years since I toured it.
