So there's Castro Street, University Ave in Palo Alto.. What's another hot spot bustling with people and business?

Downtown Burlingame, San Mateo, San Carlos and Redwood City. But I wouldn't exactly call any of these places "hot spots". This is suburbia!

  1. DT San Mateo (centered around 3rd Ave)
  2. DT Redwood City (centered around Broadway)
  3. DT San Carlos (centered around Laurel)
  4. DT SSF (centered around intersection of Grand & Linden)
In that order. There's also Lil Mex in RWC centered around the intersection of 5th & Middlefield Avenue which has hands down the best Mexican cuisine in the peninsula (and IMO the best in the Bay).

#1 and #2 I agree but I'd edit/add to this list:
3. Burlingame #1 - Burlingame Ave.
4. San Carlos
5. Burlingame #2 - Broadway
6. SSF
7. Millbrae - Broadway
8. San Bruno - San Mateo Ave. (its a little sketchy, similar to SSF)
9. Sunnyvale - S Murphy ave - (its very small but maybe better restaurants/pubs then SSF or San Bruno)

I never went to Burlingame or Millbrae when I lived in the Peninsula so that's part of why I forgot to mention them. Sunnyvale is in the South Bay btw not the Peninsula.

San Bruno just doesn't have much going on outside of Tanforan... SSF is a much fuller DT than SB.

Burlingame has a nice happening downtown area and Millbrae also has a vibrant area around Broadway.

Downtown Redwood City (not El Camino. downtown is several blocks off El Camino.)
