It is totally a great idea, but when everyone is taking up more space on the menu to proclaim their local, organic, sustainable etc that you can't even figure out what they are serving, it's a problem. It is so overboard it seems like a farce.

In the '90's when I was very young and into labels, I always thought yuppies were people who "sold out", who had tuned out in the 60's and 70's and then joined the rat race in the 80's and 90's.
Now, I don't know what it is, but my husband (lovingly and jokingly) used to call me a yuppie for blasting reggae when I had a new lexus (in the 90's I was blasting it in my beat up pathfinder). Actually, I didn't even know people still used the term, but I generally stay away from using stereotypes regardless.

Default misconceptions about yuppies

It's offensive to hear some comments on here. I'm born and raised in the bay. Raised by a single mother on a less then average income. I went to a private college but all from money I loaned. I now live in SF work as a nurse 3-4 days a week and make 100k a year. I am socially aware and feel like I earned everything I have. I know many others in my situation. Not everyone is raised privileged, many of us work hard.

Seeing that this thread is from a couple of years ago, I doubt you'd have been offended if you didn't actually seek/search this out to begin with!

I agree, menus need more pictures.

Ok, I'll bite. What does "the Stuff White People Like" mean?

White people can like, have been known to like, and have liked everything, just like everyone else. Other then racist stereotypical generalities, what difference is there in "the Stuff White People Like" vs. "the Stuff Black People Like" vs. "the Stuff Yellow People Like"?

I mean seriously...

Google it. There is a tongue in cheek blog. And the book. And the author is a contributor/panelist in another tongue in cheek book called, "How To Be Black."

That alone certainly doesn't qualify you to earn the prestigious label "yuppie". You've got to prove your lameness, primarily with cheesy public behavior. Investigate the Marina for clarification.

But yes, if you dig through the C-D archives, you can find infinite items by which to take offense, if you so choose, though we would surmise that there may exist more happy quests to pursue.

A person that dislikes criminal behavior and enjoys food and wine, I'll take yuppies over gang banger wannabes anytime.
