I'm a 43 yr old piano player with 25 yrs professional experience in piano bars...and wanting to move to San Diego. It's a risky business to be in but I've always had work, though I'm a little intimidated to come out there and not be able to find gigs. Anyone have any insight/could give me some direction?

You'll starve in San Diego. I would take a look at Los Angeles. That is the center of the music business (including things like session work) for the entire country.

Well I know a new Bing Crosby's restaurant and Piano lounge just opened up in San Diego. They have one in my hometown in the Bay Area and it's pretty popular.

Shouthouse is a pretty popular piano bar downtown and is really fun, tends to be crowded and have long lines on weekends.

There seems to be some piano bars but not a huge amount in SD:

Sorry but I have no idea how hard it is to get a gig at any of those places. You probably could call around and see if they hire people often.

Maybe the tourism industry here could use piano players?
