LA Fitness on Navajo Road in San Diego/El Cajon just closed down so I'm looking for a new gym. I'm curious what people's thoughts are on the different gyms in the area?

24 Hour Fitness, LA Fitness, Crunch, Chuze, etc.

I like to use free weights, with occasional machines. I also like some cardio, mainly the higher end spin bicycles. Racks, ropes, kettlebells, medicine balls would be a nice added bonus too.

Thoughts on cleanliness, crowding, variety of machines/barbells/dumbbells, trainers, etc.

Get some free passes to the other gyms and try them out. I have a free membership to Chuze, but rarely use it.

I drive by 24 Hr Fitness Grossmont all the time. All I see are the less than desirables loitering around and the parking seems atrocious!

parking is terrible, but no different than LA Fitness on Navajo.
The less desirables don't even come up the street or go near the gym. They either go to the mill or stay down by the trolley. My niece lives in those apartments by trolley and walks her dog every almost every night with out any incidents.
There are a couple of small mom/pop places around downtown La mesa.
My Wife seems to like Chuze and OrangeTheory a lot.

I'm thinking Crunch by the mall. Looks like a well stocked gym, freeweights, plenty of machines, Olympic Racks, etc. Pretty cheap compared to the $30/month I was paying at LA Fitness

I liked the YMCA - they had really nice Spin Bikes and spin classes. Weights there were okay, had a little problem with machine availability the Y I went too was crowded. It was pricey too. The Y does great introductory training (if you need it) but it's annoying as heck they will take up multiple machines and go at snails pace during peak hours of the gym.
I go to Chuze now it's cheaper and I think it's better overall (free weights, machines, sauna available machines) although their spin bikes aren't the greatest.

I go to Orangetheory but will probably quit to spend half as much at the YMCA. All the classes are included with your membership there.
