I'm considering a move to SD and am interested in neighborhoods I've been hearing about around Balboa Park, including Hillcrest, University Heights, Mission Hills. I'm single with a dog and not much into the nightlight scene. Ideally I'd like to keep a rental budget under $2.5k.

I currently live in Santa Monica and love the ocean breezes we get here day in and day out but have also lived elsewhere in LA and know that those breezes rarely make it past the 405.

At the same time, I live far enough north from LAX that I don't hear any airport noise but the SD airport looks to be a little bit more in the center of things.

Can anyone advise on the situation in the general areas I've mentioned vis-a-vis these two criteria?

Here are the areas that the airport considers noise affected.

San Diego International Airport

You should also know that airport noise is not just limited to these areas. Around the Miramar, you will have aircraft flying in and out that are a lot noisier. They fly right over UTC on their way to the ocean, and they are loud.

Try living in Liberty Station off Rosecrans and the surrounding area. Under the takeoff path for the airport. During the day every 5 minutes or so there is a full throttle takeoff, so loud you can't engage in a conversation.
