This is my experience:

less than 80k, good luck, you will need it
80-90k, uncomfortable, difficult to save
90-100k, better but still renting
100-120k, not yet comfortable, financial stress bearable
120-150k, comfortable
150-200k, no worries as long as you don't pretend to be rich

All the information you want to know can be found in these threads. Very detailed answers.

For the medical insurance, if you're working for a company, they typically will provide at least some coverage. Some better than others. If you are self-employed or own your own company and have to get coverage, the best bang for the buck I've found is Kaiser Permanente. I've been really happy with them although it keeps going up each year. I have coverage for my wife and I and our two young kids and we pay $1,460 a month now for full coverage.

Check out some of those other threads as almost everything is asked and answered many times as it pertains to cost of living.

Or better yet, take the time to post a detailed list/spreadsheet of what you spend in each category in India and people can tell you if it's going to be more or less here relatively speaking. Of course much will depend on what quality of life you are used to living, the age of your kids, what kind of school district you want them to go to, etc.
