Hey everyone!
Wondering if you locals have ways (besides street parking) to try and avoid the ridiculous $25 /night parking fee's for hotels. What are the parking times for the majority of meters and does that include weekends? Are there any structures that might have an all day parking or overnight parking for a reasonable price, $10? For the downtown area, is street parking safe?
Again, many thanks for your time!

Which hotel are you staying at?

Many of the paid lots dont allow for overnight parking. Even then, the lot maybe quite a hike from your hotel.
As far as street parking, with any city, there are rules.
The SDPD are militant with street parking and even have a little 3 wheel go cart called the "Interceptor" (not kidding) that start at 8am and just start nailing cars left and right.
Its a nice revenue generator for the city. Sundays and Holidays are free parking, but meters start at 8am. Just remember to read those street sweeping signs. Tickets for being in the way, during street sweeping are an even higher fine than just missing the meter.

Unfortunately the 'free' or 72 hour street parking spots are always taken. If you are lucky there is a small sliver of this parking between 2nd and 3rd Ave on J Street, right across from the Mortons Steakhouse. You are better off finding a needle in a haystack though.

Street parking is safe, if you can find a spot where you can park without having to run to feed the meters. There are some off hotel lots that charge about $15 a day for parking.

When I was visiting here, I was able to park my car in places where they didn't have meters but I did get one ticket for having the car parked in a spot when street cleaning was going on.

Long story short, you can find parking, but it's not necessarily going to be the easiest thing to do. It may be worth it to pay the $25 and avoid the hassle.
