I landed a job in San Diego and I'm moving in 2 weeks!! I am beyond excited! I have a temporary place to stay in the South Park area and will be working in La Jolla. Do you have any advice or tips to give a newbie? I have visited San Diego but never lived there. Is there anything you wish you'd known about when you first arrived? Any quirks about the city, it's residents, or anything like that?

No real quirks, but it's more superficial friendly than long conversations friendly, when you are out and about....of course, with people you know you actually have conversations.

Depends upon where you are coming from, too....It's pretty laid back and low key, overall, for a city of it's size. Enjoy! South Park is a fun area, and the commute to LJ won't be 'too' bad [esp. if the job is really in UTC area, not LJ proper. LJ proper can be pretty congested during rush hour times-but who cares? You're in SD now!!! Go the beach first, and avoid the traffic, before heading home!](:

With a job and a temporary place to stay (South Park is a great area) already lined up, the only advice I have is for you to have fun when you get here. Go out and explore, find your favorite burrito place and be prepared for family and friends inviting themselves to come for a visit when you least expect it!

Congratulations!

I'm also trying to move over there or SF from NY. Advice would be awesome! I'm trying to avoid moving there first and living off my savings but part of me wants to!

Ha, ha. SO true. I've never had so many in-laws, cousins, friends, etc. visit before in any city I've lived in before vs. San Diego. Everyone seems to want to visit!

I'd recommend to try to make some good friends at work, gym, social settings, etc. It will really enhance your experience of living here making some friends.

I've found it's a bit more difficult here to make friends as you have to be more proactive about it but it will greatly enhance your quality of life here as there is always so much to do and see here.

Congrats and enjoy San Diego.
