Temecula is a fantastic town for families with kids. The city does an amazing job of offering fun, free, activities all summer (just take a look at the city website...so much to do, so little time ;-) ). The school district is wonderful, the weather is great, and because of the topography, even the very commercial areas are pretty, with lots of hills and trees. I actually write a blog about Temecula- from a mom's point of view, how to have fun, save money, and enjoy this great town, but I can't put the address here. If you check out my profile you can see the address there. I'd love for you to check it out, because I love this city. And I think the "ghost town" talk is all very interesting regarding the housing, because everyone also talks about how it's so crowded and that there's bad traffic everywhere. In my experience, it is neither of those things. Just a thriving, successful city that does a great job of supporting its residents. Hope to see you here soon!!

Sadly, that's all over the country. Cheap and easy-to-make means it's the drug of choice these days. My husband was police officer in Oceanside, and the meth problem was WAY worse there than it is here, for sure. So sad...

Exclamation Living the dream? Life just gets better. Yea right. Some people just live in a dream world.

Your kids already have drug and alcohol problems. Maybe you should make sure they stay in school and not let them stay out all night getting drunk. It won't matter where you live because your an unfit mother. Both your step-children ended up in jail on drug related charges. Maybe you should clean out your house first...people that live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones...I think thats one of your fav quotes.

Maybe I'm just naive, but I don't see that at all. Sounds like FUD to me.

Let's just say that when the cat is away, the mice come out to play. Expericence is the number one teacher. That doesn't mean that it's completely a bad thing, people experiment with things in their youth. That doesn't make them bad people. It's not FUD, it's fact. Definitely not fear,(why fear normal experimentation) nor uncertainty (I know what I saw and read and have done), nor doubt (I don't doubt the various various ways I know).

Just as long as one is up front with children with drugs and alcohol. Don't do the DARE approach of drugs are bad, but actually teach them. The suburbs are boring places. Great schools, I got my degree in Biopsychology at UC Santa Barbara just this year (MBA here I come!!!), but boring places. I guess I have a liberal opinion on drugs (I don't condone drug use, I just think that there is nothing inherently wrong with drugs). Actions of people on drugs and the drugs themselves are two different issues.

My aunt used to live in Moreno Valley and commute to LA. By the time she got home due to traffic, it was 8 or 9pm. Her kids were out in the streets unsupervised. Then the last market downturn occured. That made her mind to leave the home. The so called 'sacrifice' of buying a home out in the boonies to have more $ for other things was just not worth it.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but I think it's funny how there's a whole camp of people who think that Temecula is so huge/busy/crowded/fast-paced and they just can't believe the traffic, and then there are those that consider this to be, I don't know, the 'boonies' . I wonder how many out of either of those groups of people actually lives in Temecula (not around or near, but actually in)...I'm guessing not too many

Well Temecula is not a hop skip and a jump away from the main job hubs is it? Last I heard the drive to SD, LA and OC were ridiculous. Let's face it, to support the current home prices, which are still hgh, most households commute far out making it a boonie place.

Must be a lot of people that like to live out in the middle of nowhere.

Apparently unless you're living in the heart of a big city, there's nothing to do but turn to drugs.

@dweej - I'm not saying that people don't do drugs in Temecula, I'm just saying that I don't see the big drug problem and especially not the rampant meth labs around.

if Temecula is a boring town with nothing to do then my question is:
What do you want to do that you can't here?

What's different about Temecula vs. any other town in America?

It has its shopping mall, movie theaters, restaurants, plenty of parks, riding trails, athletic programs, art & dance programs, community events, "Old Town" (and corresponding events), Wineries & Casino (for those of age), festivals, a weekly farmer's market and I'm sure much more that I can't think of off the top of my head. Not to mention mini-golf, bowling, etc in the sister city Murrieta just to the North.

So what else is needed/wanted?

Please don't say there's no "Theme Park". Every town doesn't have nor need this... plus there's Sea World, Knotts Berry Farms, Disneyland and more within easy travel distance. MOST places around the country don't have this luxury.
