IMO you can typically beat big box store prices by shopping local, with the exception of when they are on sale or when someone ordered an item like a front door in the wrong size and the store sells it at a huge discount.

I just realized, looking at their site, that they no longer sell doors. It appears they just sell door kits and other mcm mill work. All I can now say is that they used to sell really nice doors. Sorry.

That's depressing. I saw the designs and thought they sold the whole door! I just looked again and saw it said door kits. So never heard of a door kit; what is it? A kit to change your existing door?

If I had to guess I'd say it's probably door + frame.

Hull doors is another local company which will order, or custom make doors. I've used them over the years and found the selection to be good, and cheap. But, I've always managed to talk them down to contractor pricing. That wasn't so easy the last time I tried.

I am looking to buy a wood front door too. So far looked at

The Front Door company - they are the front runner.
Allen & Allen - very nice and professional, but really expensive
Home Depot/Lowes - would prefer a smaller local shop
MG Building Supply - found a door I liked, but would like to see what else is out there

Pella seems to have a lot of bad reviews online, so I think I'm going to shy away from them. Any other places that are in San Antonio and have a showroom to look at options?

Steves Doors | Interior & Exterior Doors

Oh, wait - after posting, I realized you want a wood door - sorry!!
