I know of two good mechanics in SA, one in Leon Valley, and one just south of Downtown, nothing in that area. The guy in Leon Valley does do some house calls though, if you have a place to work at.

Cornerstone Automotive on Blanco near Bitters gets all of my mechanic business. I've never used a car repair place that I've liked better than this one.

Not far from where you're looking are Tom & Billy @ Sun Stop @ the corner of Jackson Keller & Blanco. My wife and I have used them for 8+ yrs, her parents for 15+ and her grandparents for 30+. They are our neighborhood garage. Tom COMPLETELY rebuilt an engine for me... the guy should have a masters degree in his profession!
Billy is a Vietnamese guy, who can be hard to understand, and Tom is an old drunk but they've always taken good care of us.
