I never made it to Edge Falls but went to high school with a gent who had a permanent souvenir from there. He dove into what appeared to be a deep spot but instead hit a rock head first, was knocked cold and rescued but left with a wicked gash across his forehead. Back then he was a wild and crazy guy, a bit of a cocksman if I may use that old fashioned term and had apparently suffered no real damage to his brain but carried a mean scar. Meanwhile go here for a neat shot on Flickf Photo of Edge Falls. Flickr Photo Download: Edge Falls (http://www.flickr.com/photos/7131002@N05/452306416/sizes/l/ - broken link)

Haven't seen a Horned Toad since the early eighties.
Back then I was living out close to the Smuggler's Highway about 20 miles south of SA.
I saw two or three out there.

Anyone here seen one since the early 80s??

When I was growing up in the 50s, we lived near San Pedro and Oblate.
At that time this was the edge of town, and the Horned Toads were everywhere.

I do remember the first time I saw one squirt a stream of blood out of it's eye.

There was an old woman up the street that paid a quarter apiece.

I remember seeing them advertised For Sale in the backs of some books.

Here's a link to an article I saw today........

OH...some of my fav memories were of Edge Falls. We didn't have a clue to how dangerous it was .....but it was Huck Finn days.....no rules, no boundaries....just nature and kids having a blast.

Bud...that picture is beautiful....but I don't recognize it. It might be further down stream than the falls everyone jumped off. (ok...the guys jumped....the girls didn't want to lose their bikinis!) Anyway....it was a sink hole type gorge in one place that was famous for the jumping and diving. We would walk along the edge and cross over the top of the falls and make our way down a trail to the river below. Lots of big flat boulders to lay out a towel and jump in or just sun on.

I use to love playing withg horny toads. I had sevceral as pets over thge years. I haen't seen one in several decades. I rmember the story of a horn toad that was in the cornerstone of a court house near Ft.Worth. I forgot the name of him, but he survived for 50 years or so. And he was written up. I need to google him.

Ol Rip was his name in Eastland County. http://www.texasescapes.com/FEATURES...the_Iguana.htm

See photo in above link.

Hello Mr Mud! Nice to see you again! I'd give anything (well...if I had it) to see a horny toad again.
