Second on garage sale for washer and dryer.
Saw a pair this weekend for $200/pair.
Lots of bargains in older neighborhoods with owners’ going into nursing homes.

Randyk47 - I'm very familiar with who you bought your softener from. He's been around a long time, as well. We both use the Fleck valves and many similar components, mainly because we're independents that live and die by reputation of our equipment. We use some different parts from each other, mostly because of differing experiences with reliability, etc., but ours are both pretty much the same. I've simply chosen to not get employees and advertising, mostly because I've seen firsthand what a bad employee can do to a good company, and I'm not trying to get rich....lol My son will be taking over when I retire fully, and his mindset is the same, to do a good job at a fair price and then stand behind what you sell. And no harm on forgetting to call me for a quote - life happens!

As to CR's love affair with anything made offshore....that's been a bone of contention with me for many years (and we're a subscriber). They've done some wonderful work - but they've also done more to drive up the cost of many products with their "safety at ANY cost" mantra. One of my customers was the Friedrich manufacturing plant before they shut down here in SA - and I got to know the folks in the R&D department very well, since I maintained the water system they used for their environmental chambers. They also dismantled and evaluated competitor's equipment as well, to see what they might discover. The consistently lowest-rated (by their evaluation) units were those made by LG. Everything was built to absolute minimum spec, and that threshold was pretty low.

There's been many other examples of "top-rated" products endorsed by CR that I've had personal experience with that simply didn't live up to their ratings. They generally hate Lincoln cars, but we've been driving them for about 20 years now, and love them. The wife's current - a 2016 MKT - is a road-eating tourer that has a huge luggage capacity and eats highways like candy. And that twin turbo.......

TrapperL, you'll likely never see a self-propelled corded electric mower because of "safety". They don't like that cord where someone could defeat the safety interlocks and have the mower get away and run over the cord. Needless to say, Darwin isn't very happy......

As to battery powered equipment, the biggest issue is the drain on the battery on the higher-load equipment. I bought a honking-big battery powered Stihl (IIRC) weedeater earlier this summer to work at our family cemetery in McQueeney. The factory rep there that day assured me I'd get a minimum of 90 minutes of run time per battery, so I bought a spare battery (so I'd have 3 total) and headed to work. Now, I ain't sure what kind of pansy grass THEY cut to get that battery time, but I can PROMISE you that with REAL weedeating, you're gonna get about 18-20 minutes per battery. Needless to say, it went back and I got a gas powered unit.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I have made some changes to the spreadsheet and added more info. It may be a work in progress until my home is built by end of October/November. Please review the updated spreadsheet and provide feedback. Thanks.

Here is the updated spreadsheet:
