Hello, (two Q's)
My fiance and I will be moving to San Antonio this August. I will be working at Wilford Hall at the Lackland AFB while he may be working downtown (not sure yet he will begin job searching around June/July). Our only option is to search for apartments online because unfortunately we will not have the opportunity to actually go see the apartment.
Any suggestions to what neighborhood, apartment complex, or anything (!) for what we are looking for would be greatly appreciated!

-1 bedroom under w/ price range $600- 850/monthly rent (a newer apartment complex would be nice, new appliances, pool, etc.)
- if possible, walking distance to shops, restaurants, cafe's, etc.
-a
very safe area (we are runners and at times would like to run in our own neighborhood)
-I don't mind the drive to Lackland as long as it is no more than 35 min.
With the research we have done so far, I have come across Alamo Heights/Monte Vista and North West/Central area as possibly being areas that fit our likings.... but we are still so very lost in this search. It would be nice to just focus on one area we like and then search the apartments in that area.
and the second Question:
What freeways have the worst traffic? I keep reading areas to avoid on certain commutes to work? Should I have anything in mind to avoid in regards to where I should live for my commute to Lackland AFB?

There are several apartment complexes (most all of them less than 2 years old) in the Westover Hills area off SH 151. Easy access to Lackland and downtown (SH 151 to Loop 410 for Lackland AFB or SH 151 to Hwy 90 to downtown via I35 or I37). Good long streets for running/bicycling.
