Giving myself a bit of a makeover late in life. Growing a beard for the first time, want to get a different kind of haircut, and need dye job that will match the hair and the beard.

I don't have any preference for a man or a woman to do it, or a barbershop versus beauty salon, I just want someone - preferably on the North side who is expert and can work with me on this.

Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

All I can recommend is IF you decide to do this, #1 GET someone to help you do it to ensure you keep the dye off the back of your neckline and behind your ears "(OMG, I live in a 55+ community and several guys color their hair, and why not? Lots of us ladies do too!). It is AMAZING how many have UGLY dyed/discolored skin on their necks, behind their ears, place you might not be able to see a ladies sloppy home job because of longer hair) AND to "keep up with it" if you are all grey and go darker...cause it will REALLY emphasis the grey if you don't.

My one question is WHY oh WHY do people (like me) that are older and color their hair choose such DARK colors??!?!? Makes it look VERY obvious for sure....I recommend if you are going this route to feel better about your looks, do go to someone who is a professional at least the first time, and let them give you guidance on color choice and stuff. I personally would go to a beautician...and mine sees LOTS of guys even just for haircuts. I think guys are FAR more likely to have their hair done by a beautician than a lady by a barber.

To locate someone in your preferred area, go to Yelp, put in beautician in the "search for" box and when you put San Antonio be SURE to add your ZIP CODE to the box behind the city and it will give you selections/recommendations and feedback from previous clients to help your in selecting what works best for you. Just food for thought! Good luck!

Matador's Men's Grooming. They give you a shave, a full haircut, and they will put a beer in your hand in a frosted glass while you're at it. They have 2 shops North Side and one Downtown.
