Hey all,

Could anyone tell me where are the good areas to live near Lackland AFB? Areas that are family friendly and a close distance to the base. I have never been to San Antonio and I am starting my preliminary search of the area, because we move next March.
Thanks!

My huband is military and we live in Spring Vistas. We love the area and the schools. The area has alot to offer. I takes him about 15 min to get to work. Are you looking to buy or to rent? Zip code would be 78251. You will be close enough without being right at Lacklands back door. Hope this helps and good luck with your search.

Are you military? How much of a commute do you want (i.e., <30 min). What is your price range? Buying or renting? What other attributes are you looking for (shopping, schools, etc)?

To be honest, you will probably want to live a little bit away from base as the areas close to it aren't the best. There is some new housing going up outside of the Valley Hi gate outside of Loop 410; it's nice but it still isn't anyplace I would want to live.

Otherwise, you can basically go anywhere from 9 o'clock from the all the way up to about the 1 o'clock position and be as close to or outside of the Outer Loop (1604) and be fine. Tons of housing there and all within a half-hour commute, good schools (NISD) and shopping. There are some downsides but there are everywhere...

Cheers! M2

Yes,
My husband is military. I hoping for a commute no more than 15 min. We do have kids, so I would like to know what schools are best too. What is the best school district?
Thanks.

I would check out Hunters Pond off of Medina Base Road. Nice new neighborhoods less than 5 minutes to the base. There are homes to rent in that area.

You have a year until you get here and quite a bit of the traffic patterns can change in a year; and you can be a little more flexible on time since you're renting.
