Anyone have any experience? Suggestions on which company has the best deal. I'm hearing you have to list the complex and beneficiary for $100,00, but does it cover your belongings?

Thanks!!

Yes, it will cover your belongings. Get a quote from whoever you have your auto insurance through. You can shop around if you'd like, but since it is fairly inexpensive to begin with, I suspect that you will not find too much difference between companies. Also, you may get a discount on your auto insurance (multi-line discount).

We had coverage through USAA. It was $15/month.

I am still in VA for another 6 weeks, but I have been carrying State Farm for the apt I live in. It is $100 a year. I am hoping it will go down a little once I get to SA. My friend just moved there and he said his auto insurance dropped significantly.

Yes, it will cover your belongings. But since you have to list the apartment complex as the beneficiary, you will not get the check. They will -- and they will disperse whatever is leftover after expenses. "Their" expenses may be replacement of carpeting, wood flooring, bathroom vanities, (non-realty items) etc. It can get murky. I tried to get insurance through State Farm for my apartment in Reston, VA, and State Farm said no to the beneficiary issue. This was a few years back, and they may have changed. The insurance was $10 to $15 a month.

Your renters insurance will have liability coverage (most companies start at a minimum of 100k), medical coverage for guests, and whatever amount you want to insure your personal property for. Some complexes want to be listed on the policy as an additional insured for liability purposes. Shop around and get quotes with all the big boys.

Does this also cover theft? I am wanting insurance for fire/flooding under renters insurance but mostly for theft, would that be covered as well?
