Actually, NEISD has schools with higher test scores than Alamo Heights, but I've always held the stance that test scores have more to do with the socio-economic status of the student than the quality of the school.

Thanks so much everyone; I really appreciate your time! Can anyone recommend (in a DM) a realtor that would cover all of these suggested areas (Boerne, Helotes, Shavano Park, Alamo Ranch, etc.)? Thanks!!

MOD Note: Just a reminder all, no specific real estate company, broker or agent name or mortgage bank/company or website recommendations can be posted in forum - Send DM only

I live in the Fair Oaks Ranch area and work on Ft. Sam Houston, which is just north of downtown. I leave for work at 6am, and leave for home around 4pm each day. The commute on I-10 east, to I-35 to the Walters St./AT&T Center exit takes me about 25 minutes on the inbound leg in the morning, and about 30-35 minutes on the outbound leg in the afternoon. It isn't that bad. Granted, a 30 change in departure time alters the drive time significantly. At or after 630am, traffic stacks up from Boerne Stage road inbound through the 1604 interchange down to about DeZavala, then opens up a bit until the 410 interchange.

FWIW, Business Week announced this week that Helotes, a suburb to the NW of San Antonio, is their pick in Texas for the Best Small Town to Raise Kids.

I'm moving to SA next month because my hubs got a job at swri too. We were looking in the Deerfield area. We have two little ones (3 and 10 months). Any ideas about preschools?

Default Relocating -Active neighborhood

We are relocating to SA this summer. We have a 9 and 10 year old. I would like to find an active neighborhood (community pool, swim team, tennis...) in the North/West quadrant of SA. Schools are a definite consideration as well. Our budget is $450,000 - $500,000. Thanks for any information you can share!

You are going to love San Antonio...I sent you a DM of the agent that helped us find our new home...she was excellent & was patient & knowledgeable. She started sending us options VIA email right away when most agent heard we were looking 6months down the road they ignored us. But she was great!

Realtor here, I would definitely consider Alamo Heights first. The school district is top notch, and the community is fantastic. Your budget really leaves the door wide open for you, the options are endless. I love Boerne too, but the commute could become very wearing after a few months.

Uhhhh I'm no realtor, but 450k-500k is not endless in AH. That gets your foot in the door in Alamo Heights. I do agree with everything else you said about AH though.

I'm sorry, I think that I did not phrase my comment correctly. I did not mean that 450k to 500k left you endless options in AH, you are totally correct that that amount will only get you in the door in that part of the neighborhood. What I meant is that with that budget, she has endless possibilities of places to live around town.
