There are some positions that pay around $12 to $16 an hour, but they're outside of San Antonio. It might be worth it to drive if you're unemployed and can't find anything else. Karnes City is too far for me. I applied for two positions and got called for an interview. I was told over the phone that the base pay was $9 an hour, but I would get a little more pay for my bachelor's degree. I told them I was looking for at least $14 to $15 an hour and the guy on the phone said that was out of the salary range for the position. No thank you! I make more than $9 an hour now and I don't have to work with juvenile delinquents with mental health issues.

I don't think my education or experience would apply to a job at Halliburton, so I won't have a chance to sell my soul to the devil. Halliburton is not evil because it makes money; it's evil because it has done evil things.
The GEO goup is just Wackenhut with a new name. Still paying barely anything to work in the jails they run, plus they have a bad reputation for not getting inmates the medical treatment they need.

The Halliburton jobs are at 1604/37. That's San Antonio.

Floresville is 30 miles from downtown SA.

Kenedy is 59 miles from downtown SA.

You missed the mark by 40-70 miles or so.

Leave politics out the door. Let's not play this game as if one side is clean of wrongdoings and misgivings.

I hope the sand dune lizard migrates down South and ruins this entire operation. Big oil ruins everything it touches. You'll thank me later.

When I worked downtown in 2007, I talked to a GEO Group guard that worked at the federal jail. He said they were only being paid $9 an hour. $9 an hour to work with federal prisoners? I make more money than that now guarding a government facility with no prisoners. Yep, the GEO Group is a subsidiary of Wackenhut which is now G4S. A few private prison companies have a bad reputation for poor security, poor delivery of services, and hiring unqualified employees who are poorly trained. Profit and the prison system should not be mixed.

Judge guilty of taking bribes from private prison, sending juveniles to for-profit lock-up | News | CCPOA California Correctional Peace Officers Association (http://www.ccpoa.org/news/entry/judge_guilty_of_taking_bribes_from_private_prison_ sending_juveniles_to_for-/ - broken link)

The GEO Group is bringing jobs here, but I'd recommend people work security before working private corrections for the same wage or less. If you live south of San Antonio, you'll be closer to the higher paying jobs the GEO Group has to offer in Karnes City and Pearsall.

Or if someone is really determined to work corrections, apply at the state prisons or the Bexar county sheriff's department. They're usually hiring and at least they offer real benefits.
