Although this was briefly touched on in another thread, Deversified developers announced May 18th that Terrell Plaza on Austin Highway will be mostly torn down and replaced with a 140k sq target store.Retail Space for Lease in San Antonio Texas | Terrell Plaza | DDR

Thank you whoever. I hate going over to 410 and Blanco to get to a Target. Almost as much as I dislike WalMart. I'm going to look forward to this one. Austin Hway has benn undergoing a make over for a while now and this could be the crown jewel.

That looks like a piece of property that could have been utilized better. By that I mean, with a much more urban design and not the sprawling parking lot thing I see in the site plans.

I do not see on the linked website anything about the demolition, only a redevelopment addition of 27,199 sf to the center, and a reference to Target coming to the center??

I did find this story on the internet about Terrell Plaza being demolished and rebuilt as a Target and other retail:

DDR, Target to Commence Redevelopment of Terrell Plaza in San Antonio - Citybizlist Houston (http://houstonrealestate.citybizlist.com/17/2011/5/18/DDR-Target-to-Commence-Redevelopment-of-Terrell-Plaza-in-San-Antonio.aspx - broken link)

Here you can read more:
DDR and Target Commence Redevelopments in San Antonio and Denver -- BEACHWOOD, Ohio, May 18, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --

Developers Diversified (NYSE: DDR) will raze the Terrell Plaza shopping center in San Antonio, Texas and the existing two-story enclosed mall at Tamarac Square in Denver, Colorado to sell the parcels, which DDR calls "non-income producing," to Target.

I don't see how anyone could criticize bringing in a Target store. They are know for having a enviable demographic pull. The stores inside and out are bright, clean and attractive. The redevlopment of Terrell plaza ( I don't see how you could mispronounce it) provides the catalyst the area needs for more quality redevelopment. I find it incredibly fitting though that target would come in seeing how JC penney was the original tenant there. JC Penney being the target of the 1950s.

Hmm, so will BIG LOTS and EARL ABELS be left alone, torn down and rebuilt or evicted? It will be nice to have a TARGET, though I don't shop there much. What other stores will be added?

Looking at the site plan, Valero, Arby's, the cell phone tower, and the building that houses Earl Abel's will all remain, with Ross Dress For Less taking the place of Big Lots, and Earl Abel's remaining. The existing west, front center, and rear center buildings would all be demolished, with the Target store occupying the west portion of the site. The rear of the Target store would be built close to Bryn Mawr Drive. Sherwin Williams and another tenant (maybe Subway? Can't make out the fine print) would be in a new building built close to Austin Highway.
