Hello, I have day business trips to San Antonio (no overnight stays) from Austin around 2 times a month. The place I'm working at is off Broadway around 2.5 blocks from the Riverwalk. I've walked to the Riverwalk many times and today I went to 4th Street Cafe today at the advice of a coworker and man that was some good southern style cooking and a worthy cause too! (my coworker said all the profits go to donations and the cooks are volunteers?)

I've seen some posts about how San Antonio has some good Mexican restaurants where they home make the tortillas which apparently Austin doesn't have a lot of.

Next time I have a business trip down there, which Mexican restaurant would you recommend. It would have to be either in walking distance or a couple of miles driving away from around the intersection of Broadway/4th. I will be on expenses so I'm not worried about that.

Thank you and by the way, I really enjoy these trips to San Antonio. The vibe is totally different than Austin, very mellow and laid back. The people down there seem really genuine and nice and we always get along.

Thanks!

Taco Haven 1032 S. Presa make their own tortillas. You can watch them making them, and they're excellent. That's too far to walk for lunch time, but it's only a few miles.

I work in your same area and this is a downtown worker favorite for Mexican Food that is in walking distance: Lula's

They make their own tortillas, chips...everything. It is always packed at lunch. They are famous for their puffy tacos and their Chicken Poblano(thursdays only)

4th Street is about the only location in that corner of downtown. The next closest that is a similar venue is the Copper Cafe with home cooking in a nice historic atmosphere.

3624 Broadway. About 1.5 miles north of 4th st. on Broadway, about 1/4 mile south of Hilderbrand and Broadway.
