We are moving to Fredericksburg from the Midwest, we noticed our new home does not have screens and we like to open up our house when the temps are between 55-75 degrees. (Won't be anytime soon, ha!) Do we need to get some screens or are they just needed for mosquitoes, etc. like we have up here in the north.

You might have some other bigger flying things come in or some pest walk in but if you don't mind then I am sure they will welcome you!

mosquitos can be swatted away, wait till you see the flying roaches if you're in the country. or the wasps when the water dries up.

we don't have screens and like to open the windows when the weather permits.

We use some expandable screens that you can get at Lowe's. You raise the window and the screen insert goes into the opening. Don't cost much.

We only open 2-3 maybe 4 windows at a time.

Took off all the screens the last time we painted. It is an old house in a historic district and the original screens would have been wood. Too expensive to replace with wood and the aluminum ones that were there looked bad.

You have to have something. We have skeeters year round.

Ok, screens it is. The home is very old, restored 1880's -- I'm sure it will cost dearly but I love not having air on 24/7. And just how bad are the mosquitos? I didn't know there were any, I thought it was too dry!

It DOES rain....

As to the window screens - once you get there, check around with the local folks - there's goning to be someone that does a lot of 'em in the area.

Depends on whether you live close to water or whether you and your neighbors have things in the yard that catch and hold water which mosquitoes can breed in. (rain gauges, old tires, untended bird baths etc.) A cup of standing water is all that is needed to breed hundreds of them.
