Alpine Loop... think it starts in Pleasant Grove, UT (if you're heading South). We always stop at Sundance Resort for brunch as well, recommend reservations though.

Edit: We went last weekend and the trees hadn't really started changing colors yet. Last Oct it was beautiful.

My first thought was the Alpine Loop as well. This time of year is also a great excuse to go have Sunday brunch in Park City. Or, go up to Snowbird for lunch and ride the Tram up top before the ski season starts.

No idea about the Alpine loop, but the Mount Nebo loop is also rather good.
This one starts in Payson and ends in Nephi.

Best time to go:
End September - Start of October.

The Alpine Loop is a great idea, as is the loop up Big Cottonwood Canyon and over Guardsman's Pass. I'd say any time from now through a couple of weeks from now would be good. You may have to go up near the higher elevations before you see a lot of change of color, though, but once the leaves start falling, they go fast. Also, expect a lot of gold and not as much red as you'd find in some mountainous areas.

Thank you for all the recommendations. My daily commute involves driving from 9400S-Wasatch-7000S and everyday I see a little bit more yellow in the trees !

Never realised that, but in all my pics, I have no reds at all,
except maybe a few which may come close to *reddish* ?
Plenty of bright greens, - yellows, - golds, - browns, almost *reddish*.
You come at the right time, the colours are bright,
too late and they are drabby looking.

I have a friend who lives in Fountain Green,
and we ask him when the colours are about right.
When he says *Now !*, we go that same week end !

We once had a chance to be on the East Coast,
and they did have have some fiery reds !!

Nebo loop is my favorite, usually around Oct. 7th- 15th or so, but it varies by yr. Lots of reds down low, yellows up high.
