Second college year student of University of Utah can't find internship in Salt Lake City or near in accounting or finance. Student transfered from NJ. Student has 4.0 GPA and sent out 25 resumes with cover letter. Every one is customizable for particular company. No replies at all. It's end of March already. Why that may be happenning? Is he doing something wrong? Any advise on how to land internship in this case ?
Many thanks for all replies

As you can probably tell from my moniker - I'm a U of U grad (undergrad and grad level). The vast majority of internships for students at the U are arranged through school contacts. And, it's a prioritized system with the top students getting the top slots (because of staff recommendations).

My advice? He needs to get close to his professors and make sure they have his back. They have the contacts to hook him up - if they really want to do so. A recommendation from them to the employers will go a long way. He needs to actively work the system to make it work for him.

Another alternative is for him to get close to an employer he wants to work for. Then, if they agree to do so, he can have them go through the process to become a intern supervisor.

Best of luck with it all. It's good to hear he's going to the U.

Thank you so much for great advise. I am not sure why student did not ask professors. He is good student and one professor considers him the best student in past semester. I did forward your reply to my student already. Many thanks again.
