Santa Cruz's boardwalk is tacky just to warn you. It's nothing like Ocean City, MD, but it isn't even close the beautiful beaches we have up in Oregon. I'm only writing this, because it's a haul from Sacramento. It just depends on what you want from a beach.

As someone who grew up in the Bay Area, I loved visiting the Santa Cruz Boardwalk every few summers. I've never been to Ocean City, MD, so maybe it doesn't compare, but it was great as a kid, and I still like going, and I'm in my 20's now.

However, it is a long drive from Sacramento (2-3 hours) and you'd probably have to spend the weekend in Santa Cruz to make it worth your while. There's more to Santa Cruz than just the beach, too; it's a fun, artsy town.

The Santa Cruz boardwalk can be tacky to some, but it's worth a visit if you have never been there before. There are other beaches (state parks) nearby and the nearby town of Capitola with its wharf Capitola Photos & Information, Capitola, California is a quaint place worth a visit . And it's much warmer than the beaches in Oregon.
