I stopped returning my bottles. I just recycle them on garbage day now. When I stood in line for an hour and a half with a load of bottles and cans, only to get back $2, I stopped. I couldn't take anymore.

This is indeed a rip off as the only way you can recover a portion of your money is to take cans and bottles to a recycling center and accept whatever they are paying....which is considerably less than the 5 cents per aluminum can and 10 cents per plastic liter bottle that it states on the side of the container that you are entitled to recover....

We should all be writing to our state legislature to complain...it is just that most people have gotten brainwashed into "recycling" and doing their part to prevent litter the easy way by dropping them into a recycle container...
they fail to think it through and realize that they are losing money...

We telephoned the California Conservation Hotline number 800-RECYCLE and went through the myriad of menus and transfers only to end up getting a Recycle Center location, not the Redemption Center number we were looking for.

The location of these Redemption Centers are a HUGE MYSTERY....I am wondering if any really exist...

Remember the hidden tax you are paying the next time you have a beer or soda...
