So I found a listing for an apartment on Newhall drive, in the Rosemont area. Is this area any good?

I'm looking for somewhere quiet, safe, not-to-urban feeling. I'm relocating from San Francisco and am not at all familiar with the sacramento area. In general, I've been told east sac is a good place to look for affordable, safe an quiet rentals. True advice?

I wouldn't be too comfortable living there.

They have two unsolved murders in the past year in that area, one at Westporter and Lilibet, less than a half mile from Newhall Drive, and another just north of Einstein Middle School, in Rosemont Community Park, which is less than a mile from Newhall.

Generally speaking, I'd stay a bit north of Kiefer Blvd if you want to consider Rosemont.

East Sacramento and Rosemont are not the same. "East Sacramento" is a neighborhood of Sacramento, roughly Alhambra Boulevard to 65th Street between the Union Pacific main line and Highway 50. Rosemont is east of that, and outside the Sacramento city limits in the unincorporated county.

Although whoever told you East Sac was affordable was someone used to San Francisco prices...It's one of the more expensive neighborhoods in Sacramento, and among the most desirable.

It's really that bad?

jees. where IS good in sacramento? places in midtown seem hit or miss. near UC Davis medical center i've been told is pretty ghetto. south sacramento is also apparently kind of ghetto.

South of UCDMC gets a bit rough, north of UCDMC is Elmhurst and East Sacramento, which are very nice. The central city is "hit or miss" depending on the neighborhood but generally more hit than miss--the eastern half of the central city (what we call "Midtown") is quieter and more comfortable except within a couple blocks of concentrations of bars (J Street, 21st Street, L Street west of 21st.)

Land Park/Curtis Park are very nice. "South Sacramento" is an unincorporated neighborhood south of the city limits. Sacramento (the city itself) is about 100 square miles, twice as large geographically as San Francisco, so there is a lot of territory to cover, and there are a whole ring of suburbs (incorporated and unincorporated) outside the city limits.

Ok about 2/3 of folks in SF rent and therefore there is a wide variety of rentals (in laws, flats, studios and apartments) throughout the city. In Sac you pretty much have two choices...apartment communities and mostly single family homes. My impression of Sacramento is that apartments aren't located in the better areas (just as you wouldn't find apartments in West Portal, St Francis Woods, Midtown Terrace, Forest Hills, etc). However, try the Windbridge Drive area in the Pocket neighborhood of Sac. Nice apartment homes some with separate garages in a well kept residential area. Renting a single family home would provide a choice of better neighborhoods but IMHO doesn't make sense except for families.

Thank you. helpful advice. I'm looking at a few apt in pocket now. They seem nice based on reviews and google street view shows good, middle class, suburban looking neighnorhoods. i also saw a few condos in meadowview but i rhino i read in here that meadoview is a bit "ghetto"? Google street view made that neighborhood seen a bit shady. Not as bad a sf hunters point or anything, but still with garbage on the street cotners etc.

Sorry for any misspellings or grammar mistakes. I'm on my phone.

Avoid meadowview. Total ghetto.
