Just spent the past several days looking at homes and schools in Lincoln, Rocklin and Roseville. They all start to run together! We are relocating from the east coast (Charlotte, NC) and looking for nice neighborhood with good schools and homes in the 300's. We are probably going to rent for the 1st year but would like to rent in the same neighborhood/school that we will ultimately purchase in. Any suggestions or recommendations?

In that price range, Rocklin would be a good choice. Specifically the Whitney Ranch area. Our sons elementary school opened last year.

They are pretty similar. Each has great schools and average schools. There are no terrible schools. Roseville is the largest and wherever you choose, you will probably find yourself shopping and hanging out in Roseville quite a bit. Roseville is also closest to Sacramento.

Twelve Bridges is nice in Lincoln. Be careful of some Lincoln nieghborhoods with super high Mello Roos (taxes). It won't matter if you rent but if you decide to buy you'll pay many thousands more in taxes every year.

My personal favorite is Rocklin. It's got a nature element that Roseville doesn't have:

Default Roseville

We have settled on Roseville and are planning to lease a condo for the first year at Venu which is located in the Galleria area. Does anyone have any info on this community or area? Gates Elementary seems like a great one and is very close by.

Why not try leasing a home rather than a condo. They can be had for much not more than an apartment though if the owner is in foreclosure you could have to relocate.

Roseville is nice if you can control your commute hours. Getting on 80 at 8am is hell all that stop start driving!
