Hi, this question is as vague as they come, but what can you tell me about Greece, NY?
We're thinking of relocating to attend RIT so I'm interested in weather, crime, safe neighborhoods, elementary schools, apartments, property taxes, etc. I'm interested in whatever you have to say about the area! Thank you!

Actually, RIT is in Henrietta and would be a good choice for a place to live. Chili isn't too far either.
Henrietta is cheaper as far as property taxes go. RIT is also in Henrietta, so you would have a shorter commute. Both have decent schools, I believe Brighton would be the best school district that directly surrounds the city. If you don't mind the driving a little further, Brighton may not be bad for you. Henrietta and Greece are a little similar in that they both have areas that look like the city and areas that look rural. In general both are safe, but you would have to state which neighborhood you are looking at moving to. Overall I would look into Henrietta.
We get three to four months of snow up here. It doesn't get in the way, a heavy snowfall is plowed by the next morning and the roads are typically dry for that matter. The cold weather can be a change of pace if you are not used to it, just because you are indoors more often. The summers are usually very nice, mild temperatures with lush scenery. Greece will be slightly cooler toward the lake. You can expect May through September to be generally nice weather. Fall is my favorite season, cooler but you get the changing leaves.
Greece is a great town (it's where I live) but I think Brighton or Henrietta would probably bet better for you if you will be needing to commute to RIT. Brighton is known for having excellent nationally ranked schools so it wins in that category. You're likely to find more apartments (at least nicer newer ones) in Henrietta vs. Brighton, and obviously since RIT is in Henrietta you would be closer. Are you renting or buying? If renting then property taxes shouldn't really be an issue but the property taxes would be lower in Henrietta as well. So was there any particular reason you were focusing on Greece though?
I used to live in Greece and went to RIT. It's an easy commute.
I used to work in Henrietta and go to school in Henrietta, too. I'd never live in Henrietta. Yuck. Cheap houses, and everyone leaves their garage doors open.
If I moved back to the Rochester area, I'd absolutely, positively, move to Greece, probably lakefront. Brighton is nice, but there is more breathing room and natural beauty in Greece than in Brighton.
Taxes are ridiculous in the entire state of New York. I pay the same here now as I paid 17 years ago in Greece, and my house now is twice as big.
Greece has low crime, a top-of-the-line YMCA, good schools, Wegmans (oh, how I miss Wegmans), and a humongous mall.
My wife and I live in Greece, about 5 minutes east of the mall just off of West Ridge, and my wife works out in Henrietta on John St, about 5 minutes south of RIT off of Bailey Road. She leaves for work around 6:50am before all the south bound traffic starts up on 390, and it takes her 15-20 mins to get out of the driveway and in to the office. I think 20 minutes might even be stretching it. For what it's worth, it takes me the same amount of time to go just less than half the distance from our home to downtown where I work. As long as you hit 390 at the right times in the AM and PM, it's not a bad commute at all from Greece to RIT
Greece is a great place to live. Very safe in my experiences (I only know of one person that had their car broken into once. And it was on Black Walnut!) and pretty affordable.
I went to elementary, middle, and HS in Greece and they were all pretty good. I don't know how well they rank against anywhere else, but I do know that I got a pretty good education and know a lot of people who went to college afterwards.
Great place to live and raise kids!
