Greece ranked 8th safest city by research firm | democratandchronicle.com | Democrat and Chronicle

Greece has made this list many times...it only counts towns with populations of over 75k, which of Rochester suburbs, Greece is the only one that meets that criteria. This speaks volumes for the quality of life in the Rochester area in my opinion. Greece, considred a "middle of the pack" suburb in terns of QOL (I say this as a PROUD resident of Greece) in the Rochester area; is one of the safest communities in the nation; and chances are most of suburban Rochester is even safer.

BTW to city dwellers I am in NO way trying to a "suburban etlist", just mentioned this story because it reflects on a particular area of our whole community.

Yeah but it isn't very pleasant driving through Greece, there is always a cop car stones-throw distance from you, I am not a fan of that dominant display of police force.

I think I would rather have a cop car a stones throw away from me all the time as opposed to a drug dealer or mugger.

Pittsford and Fairport are very safe... I don't see ten copcars every mile there.

Pittsford doesn't even have a police force! It's patrolled by the Sheriff.

agreed....i'm not saying that having all of those cop cars is necessary....just saying that having too many cop cars is better than having too many criminals! Also; Pittsford and Fairport each have less than 30,000 residents; while Greece has well over 90,000

I read this stat about Greece too, not too long ago. I was a bit blown away given that Rochester has had a fairly consistent high per capita violent crime and murder rate. How strange?

You consistently read about gang activity being the root cause of the violence and murders in the City. You also read about police force inefficiency. Any news on what's really (I mean *really*) being done about this? I did come by some anti-gang initiatives from several years ago (like 2003 and 2004). Are those still going? Any impact on the yearly murder rates?

I am not surprised... they have the north side of the city cordoned off like a war zone, thats where we get the bulk of our crime statistics.

Cops = Criminals
Criminals = Cops
