If you move in to the right area of Rochester, you should probably fit right in. Certain areas are quite artsy and contemporary. Public transportation doesn't seem to bad, but I'm a suburbanite so I wouldn't know too well. Rochester does have a very nice (from what I've heard) public market that as a vegetarian should make you QUITE pleased
As far as being green and all that, all I can say is that the snobs who live on the lake are giving the towns grief over proposed wind turbines installed a few miles off the lake. I'm personally all for anything that can reduce our need for fossil fuels, but apparently they feel the turbines will degrade their views of the lake and what not.
