I drove by Wythe city very briefly this afternoon and was amazed to find that one street has park spaces going about 45 degrees against pavement instead of the prevailing parallel, that's exactly what I thought and read that some foreign cities are doing that, how much easier to park on street now especially for busy streets!

That's common up in New England where you've got lots of small hamlets where people traditionally do their shopping. It's easier to get in and get out. You need wide streets to start with; many Virginia streets barely have room for a sidewalk.

It allows for more parking spaces per block, but it also is like in parking lots, (a lot of blind backing out). Park a small car next to a SUV and when you back out you may get hit.

It would be nice if culturally drivers tend to park its kind along its kind, that is, big car next to big car and small one next to small one. But don't force it.
