hi. i will move to richmond this summer to take an admin & teaching job at the University of Richmond. from what i have learned so far, Richmond seems to be very nice city.

i am looking for a nice, quiet neighborhood. probably will rent a house for the first year.

i would prefer to keep my commute as short as i can.

older houses in good shape are my first choice, living within the city limits is preferred (but not right in downtown), not too far from shopping, do not care about the schools since my wife and i dont have any kids.

i can afford something from $1,000 to $1,400.

in some of the threads, posters talk about this neighborhood or that one. but i often have trouble locating them on maps. please provide some specfics such as "north side" or a very easy to locate landmark.

oh yeah, one more thing. pittsburgh has over 700 bridges, which has taught me that i would prefer to NOT have a bridge between my home and UR....if possible.

i would really appreciate any advice on neighborhood. thanks in advance.

you have many many bridge-less options. BTW, I grew up south of Pgh so I understand where you are coming from. Bellvue on the northside is a possibility (check Wikipedia), willow lawn area / St Marys Hospital area, the near westend. If you send me a dm with an email, I'd be happy to send some neighborhood info.
