My family & I are currently in Montgomery, AL with a possible employment change that will be taking us to Petersburg, VA. We have small children (oldest is in K-5) so schools are of utmost importance to us. Up to this point we've opted for private school but would be open to public in a strong system. We're basically your typical suburbanites....we like quiet neighborhoods, the mall, eating out once or twice a week, parks, room for the kids to play, etc. We will look to rent vs. own as my career will require another relocation within 24 to 36 months...I'd say we'll probably be looking to spend no more than $1,500/mo or so for rent.

I think from what I've read on this forum that the Chesterfield area will give us everything we're looking for. My wife would love being close to Richmond's amenities and I would have a reasonable commute to Petersburg. Am I on the right track? Is there a particular area between Richmond & Petersburg that meets the lifestyle I've listed above?

Thanks in advance...JD

The Woodlake area is amazing...just off of Hull Street Road on the Swift Creek Reservoir and only 2 miles to 288-that takes you into Richmond. It's about a 30 min. drive into the city. The amenties around this area are great. Clover Hill and Woolridge are excellent school, the new Tomahawk Middle and Cosby high are top notch in VA. There are also rentals homes in this neighborhood which are hard to find. Look up the VA report cards for schools and you'll see all the stats. Here is the link to Woodlake. Good luck!
