My husband and I are contemplating a move out of NY. I would like to stay within a drivable distance to
Family and Virginia seems to fit the bill. We are trying to come up with areas that fit our long wish list and could use some help as we are searching blindly. Below is our wish list.... any help is greatly appreciated!

1. Near to Catholic Church and school. Our 3 boys attend catholic grammar school now and we would like them to continue until at least grade 8. Willing to consider public high school so would prefer a hs rated at least 7 or above.
2. Land - at least an acre if not more (privacy, don’t want open development with no privacy)
3. Water- we love the water, lake, ocean... any kind. My husband would prefer to live on a lake (that allows gas powered boats) but it seems as though schools near the lakes are not very highly rated?
4. I would like to be in the vacinity of shopping. Does not have to be around the corner but nearby.
5. We are looking for an area that we can do stuff with the kids and not feel overwhelmed by crowds, not
Sure this will be an issue coming from New York.
6. Price - we are pretty flexible on price due to sale of house in ny. We would prefer to stay below 600k.

We both work from home so commute is not an issue for now but would
Like to be driveable to city for entertainment.

Please let me know if I forgot anything!

Somewhere around Smith Mountain Lake in central VA, or Buggs Island (Kerr) Lake in southern VA. Finding a catholic grade school is going to be like looking for hens teeth in rural VA....
I am partial to Buggs Island Lake.....

Ashland, 23005. In Hanover County. <30 minutes to Richmond, 35-45 minutes to Lake Anna. There is a Catholic Church in town, but I couldn't tell you about any schools, we home schooled our four. I've got ten acres and five bedrooms and paid 430 back in 2006. I can put you in touch with a great realtor if you decide to head this way. All the best-

Any updates? We've looked in to Cape May, NJ, Portland, ME and now we're looking at Virginia.
