I'm wondering if there's a way I can commute from Richmond to Williamsburg on a regular basis. Google Maps tells me that all I can take is Amtrak. I don't think they have train passes under about $700, and same for Greyhound. The Hampton Roads carpool service requires your address before they give you a list of potential carpoolers, which I don't have yet.
I'm a student transferring to William & Mary in the fall, and I'm also trying to find a way that I can find a roommate and live within walking distance of an Orthodox synagogue. All without a car.
That would require, of course, getting to Williamsburg from a city that has an Orthodox synagogue. The closest one, besides Richmond, seems to be in Norfolk. (There might be one in Newport News, but it has no website so I doubt it exists anymore.)
Is it impossible?
All ideas considered. I'm willing to travel up to two hours to get to campus...

Why don't you speak with the orthodox congregation in Norfolk or Richmond and see if they can put you in touch with one in the Williamsburg area. Their may be a minion that meets that can allow you to observe the sabeth.

The Richmond congregation is less than 2 hours from W&M as is the Norfolk one if that helps.

I don't know if this is the pass you were talking about, but Amtrak has student passes which offer a discount on travel.
