Holly it's not even open yet, I don't know what you expect others here to tell you beyond the same reports you are seeing. There was a poster here who worked on some DOT projects, but he hasn't posted in a while.
The 3rd lane is open, but it's only been open for like 15 hours. Not sure why it even matters.
It matters because we don't know whether it will work, just like the rest of the Washington Bridge debacle. Are we spending more taxpayer money on nonsense? It matters! Unless you don't live in RI.

It makes no difference whether it merges to 2 or 3 lanes afterwards. The idea is to make it less congested on the bridge itself. It's smooth sailing after you cross the bridge.

It is? So you've driven over it at rush hour lately? Wow! That should be big news!
When they add the new 10 ft wide third lane, does anyone know if the merge will be into 3 or 2 lanes?
It's been so long that I've driven over that bridge I can't seem to picture the number of lanes!
If back into 2, I don't understand how this will help?

So, you don't even drive over the bridge...but you have this huge concern about whether it merges to 2 or 3 lanes because of your tax dollars?
Let me guess...you think you have a better solution than the engineers at RIDOT?

If you can’t help with the Original question why belittle the poster. It is a legitimate question and concern.
Not sure why DOT hasn’t put out the traffic pattern ahead of time in this case. It is standard practice here with diagrams showing traffic flow and lane changes.
