I live in Providence RI. I am 21. I was wondering what kinds of job there are in Providence I want to move out of my parents house after college. I am open to anything. I am in community college (CCRI) I want to transfer to a four year college. I am not sure what to major in to find a job. I am majoring general education. I am a black male first generation to get bachelors degree.
if you want to work in Providence, your best bet to find quick work is in the restaurant industry. Dishwasher, busser, prep cook, if you have no experience. And believe it or not, they actually pay pretty well. Restaurants are thriving in Prov. and there are lots to choose from. April/May is a good time to look because a lot of college kids go home for the Summer and leave many positions open.

A business degree can be very versatile if you're not sure what you want to do. Finance or marketing degrees are also easier to get jobs with.
There are several large companies in RI- Hasbro, CVS, Amica, and lots of start ups moving to RI. There are lots of opportunities in the state!
It's important that you get your degree, but it is also important for you to network and meet people. Check out Millenial RI, Leadership RI (I was in their college program), Pecha Kucha, The Avenue Concept, The Steel Yard, United Way, Year Up, and other organizations focused on community building that host events. Show up, learn, meet people.
Any experience is experience. Start small but work and keep improving yourself. No job is too small to start. If you like finance or accounting then be a tax preparer for H&R Block while in school. If you like marketing get into retail so you can learn valuable people skills and branding. Look for paid internships at larger companies as well. I always used to use Indeed when searching for jobs and had a lot of success. Good luck!
