I have been stuck working in the office and haven't been out much this week.

I'm starting to get more concerned. The CEO was in the news yesterday stating that there may be layoffs where I work due to a decline in revenue. While I'm not imminently worried as our department has a significant amount of work in the pipeline, you just never know. I have two to three months of savings and could maybe go one or two more with significant cutbacks. I am going to keep as much cash on hand as I can.

Two guys that my dad works with were also told to self-quarantine for coronavirus symptoms, but since they haven't had any contact with anyone who is known to be positive nor traveled internationally, the local testing sites won't test them. The facility he works at is being deep cleaned this weekend, and may require a further shutdown.

I'm hearing of job losses in my social circle left and right. The entire staff at a very successful brewery I frequent is laid off. All downtown restaurants except one here in Bristol are closed.

Personally, I think we're going to look back and really regret imploding our economy over this.

My daughter is in a corporate position with kaiser. She says that the health worries extend far beyond those infected with Coronavirus. If the system gets too overloaded many people with other conditions [heart attacks, strokes, etc.] might not receive the care they need.

I am still pretty scared, but not nearly as much as I was last night. I attribute that to 2 things. For one, I am ussually anal about my diet [diabetic] and I stuffed all sorts of crap in my mouth last night. I wasn't thinking "I shouldn't eat this because I am diabetic". it was like I forgot that I am diabetic. seriously. Now that my sugars are okay, I am much more relaxed.

Probably more than that, I took comfort in so many of the posts I read. instead of continuing to 'freak out" I have started writing down others' concerns here and putting them on my prayer list.

Thank you everyone.

I haven’t been anywhere near panicked, but now that my in-laws in western NY are suspected of having it, it’s hitting home a bit more. I’m a truck driver, so I’m simply assuming I will have it at some point and am packing in the miles just in case I end up having to call in with this. Although I carry weeks’ worth of food aboard my truck anyway, I still have to use public bathrooms.

Good choice. It's always a good remedy / perspective by helping others and realizing how well off we are vs others. There are a lot of true needs to be addressed, rather than dwelling on our perceived fears, which most likely won't happen.

Pastor and friends have sent a lot of scripture links for putting our fears in God's hands. I read every 30th Psalm each day. (I.e. today = 21, 51, 81, 111, 141) David, the great giant slayer, has a very huge and comprehensive book revealing his personal fears, including other writers too.

Apply your religious belief.
Mine indicates I am not in control, but my life IS under HIS control. Ybmv.

Use this time in solitude to calm your 'worry-mind' & brush up on your diabetic knowledge and effective strategies for you. There is much excellent information you can apply.
I use intermittent fast (18/6)
Glycemic load (vs index)
Appropriate exercise. (Lap swimming for me)
Brisk Walking

When I wake up at 3am (worrying, of coarse), I do vigorous exercises to get my body to rob energy from my , 'over-active' mind. Then read scripture or recite favorite hymns. If not back asleep in 20 min.... Repeat as necessary.

Ok to fear, (healthy, helpful)
Put it in perspective.
Do not succumb to be paralyzed by fear.
Instead build strength and resilience, and extend your help and learnings from your fear to help others.

You are ok,
Avoid the binge eating. (you will have less to fear)
Overcome the battle for you fears.

Safe distance, wash your hands, use hand sanitizer and stop listening to the news.

It might be because the entire state of California is pretty well shut down. I'm sure that some of it is because so many young people are now having serious side effects from this illness [such as death]

I am diabetic and I ussually follow my diet so well, and tonight I really blew it BIG TIME. So maybe that's why I'm freaking out. But maybe I mindlessly blew my diet tonight is because I was already subconsciously so upset.

But I am afraid. And I have to act like everything is okay because Bobbys sons girlfriend and her kids are living with us and I don't want to upset the kids.

I am wondering if I am alone, and I have no idea what I hope your responses are.

Adding to the existing reality of the virus and its really danger, having to deal with a leadership that is lying to us constantly definitely adds to fear and uncertainty.

We all have feelings of anxiety, fear, sense of dread. So you are not alone. we each feel different amount of it. My husband feels a LOT more anxiety than I do.
Just take it one day at a time. Do things that uou did not have time for before. Get your news slowly, read it, don;t let it blare at you loudly. eat well, take care of yourself.

maybe you meant older people.

CoVID-19 is targeting weak immune systems and elderly.

There are many types of human coronaviruses including some that commonly cause mild upper-respiratory tract illnesses. - CDC

Other members of the corona virus family have since been identified, SARS-CoV in 2003, HCoV NL63 in 2004, HKU1 in 2005, MERS-CoV in 2012. - Wikipedia

Everything is okay once all those tested yields a lower mortality rate. And when the next flu season comes around, CoVid-20 turns out to be weaker. God forbid it comes back stronger.
Yes, young people. over half of the people in NYC ICU for the virus are under 60

. In addition, the young people, though almost all surviving, will most likely have the lung damage [the virus pokes holes in the lungs] permanently.

I was texting with a friend of mine who is a cardiologist. Now, I know cardiologist are heart specialists, but the heart and lungs are in many ways related. He said that the lungs of these young people look 30 or 40 years older than they should for their age.

That upset me...alot. I am Autistic and the average Autistic lives a little less than 30 years as long as a non-Autistic. I hate the thought of the average non-Autistic person potentially having the same lowered life expectancy as well.

I am hopeful that the rate of infection lowers in spring/summer and returns weaker. I pray it does not come back stronger.

And the second death is from a 34 year old with underlying health condition. He went to DisneyWorld around March. My daughter went to a DisneyWorld a week before and she’s been back, no issue, still self quarantine like everybody else.

But I think NYC is a lot worse, probably because it’s more dense and people use the subway. NYC seems to be ramping up like Italy.
Thank you for these numbers. shelter in place seems to be working!

I am concerned but I made a plan before things got real bad and all I can do is stick with it. I prepared with food/supplies for myself and my adult son who lives with me, and my elderly parents who live nearby. We are all on track to stay in our houses and not leave for 2 weeks. At that point I will put on my mask and gloves and go out to a supermarket, and I'm hoping by that time there will be a slow down in panic buying and things will be a little more normal than they have been, there are already signs of this happening. I'll just restock perishables for both our households and then settle in for another week or two without leaving the house. Lather, rinse, repeat until it's no longer necessary...one way or another.

The posts I deleted were, above all, off topic. The thread topic is Are you scared, how do you feel. Not what the CDC said or did. This (and other Covid threads in Retirement) are NOT general discussion threads. Those are found in other sub-forums, and there are plenty of them.
