Once I called a wonderful animal sanctuary about possibly adopting an elder chow-chow I'd met there.They told me that his medical problems were too far gone and he was put to sleep "surrounded by his run-mate and caretakers." That's a lot more surrounding than I think I'll have! I think people project their own fear of being alone/dying onto others. I guess I understand but don't need to be part of it.
