Would you feel safe and comfortable living in a mobile home in the boonies all by yourself? I think to own the land, you have to move to a rural area.

My father owned rural land and one parcel had a mobile home, barn and farmable land that he rented out at times.

It seemed to me that he found new renters from word of mouth - someone knew someone who needed a place and told them to call my dad. It was very cheap but in the middle of nowhere. I'm not sure how you would find something like that.

Mobile homes are not that bad, I feel safe living out in the boonies in mine, I have 2 neighbors I can see from my front porch. We have a small but tight little community who look after each others place. The trick is to own the land. Only land taxes then. If you look in rural counties you will find what you need. I am west of Springfield, Mo. Lots of cheap enough country around here.

Exactly. Besides the financial aspect, having your own plot of land out in the countryside is definitely preferable to living 10 feet away from other mobile homes which may be inhabited by meth heads, alcoholics, wife beaters, and other assorted miscreants.

But land is not always an option for those of us living in urban areas that need affordable housing. I think resident-owned is the way to go if you can't have your own land. At least this way you have some protection from the land being sold and the hoa's are usually pretty low (compared to lot rents). I would think the 55+ parks would be quieter, but I have not lived in one.
