For years and years I absolutely loved my job. It was challenging, paid well, I had lots of responsibility. But then I started to realize that the thrill was gone. It was no longer fun and had become tedious. It was partly me but partly that my company had changed. So I made plans to pull the trigger. Gave them 1-year notice and planned on a ramp-down in schedule. One month before D-day, they laid me off (!!). That meant I got 6 months severance + 6 months of paid COBRA. It felt weird to end that way but financially it was worth it. It was definitely a money loss for them to do that.
