I've lived in NM many years. Cost of living overall is comparatively low. I believe after age 70 requires a yearly eye exam for driver's license. I'm looking at 55+ communities myself, and considering Las Cruces. There aren't a lot of 55+ in the whole state as compared to Arizona, and I've found few in Cruces. The ones advertised seem high priced, but my budget is very low. Guess I'll have to make a trip there and check out senior mobile home parks.

My wife and I retired, and we moved from Florida to Las Cruces.

It was a very friendly and tolerant community. New Mexico is a beautiful state, and it is a pleasure getting up in the morning, walking down to the corner and viewing the majestic Organ mountains.

A previous post indicated there was a lot of crime here. There are is some activity, but compared to other places we have lived, Las Cruces is a safe environment.

Having NMSU here there are plenty of things to do----plays, concerts, recitals, sports events ect...... this is not New York City or Chicago, but there great things to do in Cruces and in El Paso, which is just 40 miles away.

The cost of living is lower here, the weather is great-----it does get hot in the summer, over 100 degree maybe about 10 times a summer----the humidity is low, so for us it is more comfortable than Florida.

We are happy with our decision to retire here---this is a city that is growing at a moderate rate---the population is now around 103,000, and a significant number of retirees are finding their way here.
